Questions and Answers
Dear Prospective Members;
Welcome.... If you're looking to join a great bass club you've come to the right place!
South Florida Bass Pro's is starting it's 36th year, our members include variety of seasoned anglers to the "young ones"! The most important thing is having fun doing what we love to do, Bass Fishing.
So, if you're thinking about joining a Bass Club, check us out. You will find a sense of welcome from the first meeting to your first weigh-in.
I have compiled a list of questions and answers that will hopefully give you a good idea about our club membership requirements. We are actively seeking new members this year, so now is the time to join.
How do I get started?
Attend one of our monthly meetings; they are the first Tuesday of every month from 7:30 PM to 8:30PM ,located at Galuppi's which is located at 1103 NE US 1, Pompano Beach. Call 954-785-0226 for additional directions.
Tournaments are always the following Saturday. Start time will begin at safe light to 3:00pm.
What are the requirements to become a member?
No boat required!
You must be 21 years old.
You must attend two meetings and two tournaments. Once this is completed you will be eligible for membership. Active members will then cast their votes on your acceptance.
You will not be able to compete for prize money or points until the above requirements are met. You may however enter the Big Fish pot for 5 dollars.
Where does the club fish?
There are (2) two day away team tournaments and (10) one day tournaments per year. The club does not fish in August due to the extreme summer heat.
Our one day tournaments range from Lake Istapoka to Holiday Park. Normal driving times range from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.
What do I need to bring on my first Tournament?
The day starts early so bring drinks, snacks, lunch, etc. Bring a small cooler to carry your stuff.
Fishing rods, tackle box and bait (no live bait allowed), sunglasses, sunscreen, bug repellant, and rain suit is suggested. If you have your own life jacket bring it even though most boat members will have a spare.
Who will I fish with on my first tournament?
If you are sponsored by a Club member you are allowed to fish with that member OR if you found our club on the Internet or some other way, then your name will be drawn by a Club boater and you will fish with that member.
If I own a boat can I bring it to the first tournament?
Yes, there is no rule that prohibits you from doing so, however you may find it helpful to go with a member on your first tournament.
What happens if I do not catch fish?
No problem. Joining a club will introduce you to a variety of different fishing methods. Watch, ask questions and soon you will develope your own style and goto baits. Becoming a better angler is all about time on the water learning/trying different patterns while on the hunt. If you are an advanced angler then we'll like the added competition!
What happens if the member does not catch a fish?
It happens! You can always report their name to the Club President and perhaps they will win the "Mullet" hat award!!!!
What happens if I miss a tournament during the year?
If you are looking to place in the top five positions, the more tournaments you attend the better chance you will have. However, our scoring system drops the two lowest scores of your fishing year so you can miss two tournaments and still be in the points. There is no penalty for missing tournaments. Its all about having a good time.
What fees do I have to pay?
Club dues are $144.00 per year or twelve dollars a month. Dues are include a club insurance policy, and the rest is used for our year end event/awards banquet.
Tournament entry fees: (Members Only) 20.00 per Tournament including Big Fish Pot: 5.00 (Guests and Members)
It is customary to give the boater $30.00-40.00 to cover wear and tear, fuel expenses, etc. per day. With fuel prices on a constant rise just do the right thing.
Where can I purchase Club Shirts, Hats, etc. ?
Contact the Club President.
